GLENDALE, AZ – Two Air Force pilots are lucky to be alive after this mess.

The Air Force says the pilots safely ejected before an f-16 crashed in a field near Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona.

The plane was part of the 309th fighter squadron. There’s no immediate word on what caused the crash, but an investigation is underway. Here’s one clue, though: witnesses say they heard the plane’s engine sputtering and popping just before it went down.

But, hey, that’s nothing for these top gun pilots. Maverick would be proud!
