A huge crowd came to the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church to help a local civil rights legend celebrate his 85th birthday.

Reverend William A. Lawson has touched the lives of so many and this was a day to pay homage, give hugs, and praise the man who’s been a shining light in his war.

Lawson marched with Martin Luther King more than 50 years ago, and he hopes to continue spreading Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

On this day, the gym was overflowing with good will and big band tunes to honor a man who made it his mission to always bring together people of different cultures and back grounds. This celebration shows he’s still a major figure.

Here’s to hoping we get to see more of these celebrations for a legendary figure.
