A newborn baby boy found wrapped in a shirt behind a dumpster at an apartment complex in Southeast Houston on Saturday is now recovering at a local hospital.

Child Protective Services said the 7 lb., 7 oz. baby boy was full term and still had the placenta and umbilical cord attached when a man at Park Center Apartments on Beamer found the baby as he was taking out the trash.

The baby was taken to Texas children’s Hospital and treated for mild to moderate respiratory distress and low blood sugar, but he is now being bottle fed and is healthy.

Estella Olguin with CPS said they will be in court Monday morning to take custody of the baby.

Olguin wants to remind everyone that there is a Baby Abandonment Hotline you can call for those who need to surrender a child.

That number is 1-877-904-SAVE.
