For three weeks a Labelle, Florida community was pulling’ for 12 year old Zachary Reyna.

Saturday afternoon, he lost his battle to a brain eating amoeba.

Zac had been knee boarding with his friends in a water-filled ditch just before he fell ill.

After brain surgery and being given an experimental drug, doctors performed two different tests searching for brain activity. They couldn’t find any.

While Zac’s family mourns, they’re comforted knowing he helped save lives with his organs.

“Regardless of how this has turned out, it’s still a victory and it’s still something to celebrate his life,” said Zac’s cousin, Tammy Yzaguirre.

A young life over, but one the community will never forget.
