HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Independent School District has been named the top urban school district in America.

It’s an honor that means the district has the best overall performance and improvement in student achievement.

So on Monday, students and faculty threw a pep rally to celebrate.

“We have no influence on what children come to school with or prepared to do. We have a wonderful opportunity once they walk through that schoolhouse door to change their lives and to make a difference. And that’s what’s so great about H.I.S.D.,” said Superintendent Terry Grier.

The class of 2014 has also been awarded $550,000 in college scholarships, helping to send Houstonians on to higher education.

It’s just one more reason why Houston is better than the rest.
