THE DALLES, OR – Police in Oregon released dashcam footage of a harrowing traffic stop.

This was the scene from the state patrol car back on August 29, when State Trooper Matthew Zistel pulled over 34-year-old John Van Allen, a military veteran.

Allen was on a road trip with his three children, each between the ages of ten and 15.

You can see Allen get out of his car wearing military fatigues — with one hand behind his back.

The trooper repeatedly asks Allen to get back in his car and then:

He opens fire.

The trooper returned fire, hitting Allen, who then got back in his car and drove off.

According to a press release from Sherman County District Attorney, Allen was found dead half-mile down the road with a single gunshot wound to his chest.

The children were not harmed.
