EDINBURG, TX – A Hidalgo County man is behind bars after he admitted to faking his own kidnapping to get away from home and party with his friends.

34-year-old Rogelio Andaverde’s wife called police when two masked men busted into their home at 10:30 p.m. on a Tuesday night and took her husband at gunpoint.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office launched a manhunt, but called it off a few hours later after there were no leads.

Thursday morning Andaverde showed up at home, telling his wife his captors just let him go.

Police weren’t buying it, and after questioning him, Andaverde admitted he set the whole thing up.

He now faces charges of filing a false report.
