Trick-or-treater hit, killed by minivan in southwest Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Forget ghouls and goblins; this is a real Halloween horror story.

A night of trick-or-treating turned to tragedy after a five-year-old girl darted into traffic in southwest Houston.

Police say a group of children and adults were walking down the 7800 block of Boone Road when a little girl stepped into the street, and was struck by a minivan.

The child was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police have not released her name.

The 65-year-old driver was questioned and released after police determined he was not under the influence.

He will not face any charges.

It was just a tragic accident–one that will likely haunt everyone involved for years to come.
