BEIJING, CHINA – Sometimes being one in a million is nothing for you to sing and dance about.
In China, there’s about 1.3 million others just like you.
And that’s one reason the Chinese government started its one-child policy back in 1979, but only for urban parents. And twin births didn’t count.
The policy prevented the births of between 100 million and 400million babies, depending on who’s counting.
Now China’s leaders are easing up on the restrictions that affect only about a third of the country.
Couples now can have two children if one of the parents is an only child. Under the old plan, both parents had to be only children.
China’s official news agency also reports the country will close its so-called re-education camps where authorities sent people picked up for any reason.
Petty criminals, prostitutes, political dissidents, or religious offenders. All locked away to experience re-education through labor. And to help make some of the things china later sold to consumers around the world.
