HOUSTON, TX – According to the folks at Butterball, America is facing a horrifying, terrifying, devastating turkey shortage.

Well, sort of. Butterball announced they are experiencing a shortage of fresh birds sixteen-lbs and up.

According to the turkey giant, many of their farmers ‘experienced a decline in weight gains,’ leading to a shortage of plus-sized birds. The good news is that the shortage only affects butterball and only their fresh turkeys 16 lbs. and up. Meaning there are still plenty of fresh birds from other companies and no shortage of frozen birds.

But if you’re one of those last-minute shoppers who ends up with a frozen bird, it’s not the end of world, there are a few things you can do to make it taste as good as a fresh one.

Brining your bird overnight in saltwater helps. And oven roasting is better for frozen birds than deep-frying. But the best trick is simply to shop early. Or invite fewer people for dinner. Right?
