WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hey meat lovers, next time you reach for that package you might find something new staring you in the face.

A new USDA rule kicked in over the weekend which requires new labels on packages of meat showing where the animal was born, raised and slaughtered.

Those will now be included on ground meat and muscle cuts of beef, veal , lamb, pork, goat, chicken and wild fish.

But it’s not just meat.

Certain nuts are also getting special treatment along with some other food products.

The rule actually took effect back in May but companies had six months to make it happen.

So next time you’re in the grocery store take a second and meet your meat before it becomes dinner.
