HOUSTON, TX – Have you been to the newsstand lately? There’s a cool new magazine dedicated to us; the proud citizens of H-Town. It’s called “Houstonia.”
“This is a magazine that’s not about fluff. It’s not about advertorial,” says Scott Vogel, the magazine’s editorial director. “This is a real Texas Monthly-style magazine for the city of Houston.”
“We don’t wanna cover the same stuff that’s been covered to death,” says Katharine Shilcutt, the features editor who formerly worked for the Houston Press. “We want to find new and different things to present our readers with every single month.”
That’s what we try and do here at NewsFix. So we’ve teamed up with Houstonia to share some of their best stories with our viewers. Starting Thursday, December 5, we’ll bring you a new segment: “The Inside Story from the Pages of Houstonia.” This month, that includes the “Secrets of the Galleria,” like which Hollywood actor managed the ice rink when he was in school and where to go in the mall for a free glass of champagne while you shop.
Other stories this month will take you inside a life-or-death helicopter crash course; introduce you to the blind chef, Christine Ha, who won TV’s “Master Chef” last year; and show you the amazing technology one doctor uses to ensure her cancer patients don’t miss out on motherhood.
So check out “The Inside Story” Thursdays and Sundays on NewsFix. Then go to Houstonia magazine for more. Together, we hope to bring you those ‘new and different things’ we all want to know about.
