Nelson Mandela remembered across the world

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nelson Mandela was an icon, a fighter and symbol of South Africa’s struggle against racial oppression. The news of his passing was felt across the world. With his death comes montages of videos and pictures showing his impact across the world.

“He will be certainly remembered for the way he led, his dignity, his extraordinary understanding not just of how to bring democracy and freedom to his beloved South Africa, but how important it was that he first brought freedom to himself.”

His impact was even felt in Houston. Mandela received an honorary degree from Texas Southern University in 1991.

Worldwide, Mandela touched so many. Even though he’s gone, his imprint on the world will remain for a lifetime.
