HOUSTON, TX – The holidays are approaching fast and if you haven’t started shopping yet, you’d better get on the ball. And if you’re like most of us, there’s probably a kid or two on your list. With so many toys and games available these days, it’s hard knowing what to buy. But there’s one group out there who’s happy to tell you what “not” to buy.

Each Christmas the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood puts out its list of worst toys of the year. This year the top spot goes to the iPotty by CTA digital.

If you’re not familiar, the iPotty is a training toilet for toddlers with a swivel attachment that allows them to play on the iPad while they do their doo. And you can bet it’s getting mixed reviews.

“They’re toddlers,” Houstonian Dominique LaRue laments, “barely speaking and they’re using an iPad – taking the fun out of parenting.”

“I disagree,” Jackie Pena says, “I think the earlier they start, the better off they are.”

In picking the worst toy of the year, the campaign’s director wrote that “the last thing children need is a screen for every single occasion.” Keep in mind, this is the same group that seems to think every toy with a screen on it is bad.

“I think we are now trying to make our kids get older when younger, not letting them take advantage of their youth,” Paula Garcia told us when we asked her opinion of the toy. “I think it’s too much.”

“If the kid is learning, there is no problem, as long as there is something he is doing,” Lucia Mulei countered.

Looks like the jury is still out on this one. What do you think?
