HOUSTON –  December may be the month of holidays, but it’s turning out to be the month of hospital days for one Houston family.

Former First, and Second, Lady Barbara Bush went into Houston’s Methodist Hospital on Monday for an unspecified “respiratory-related issue.”

Long-time family spokesperson Jim Mc-Grath tweeted that the 88-year-old Mrs. Bush is in great spirits and that 41 and other family members have been up to see her.

Doctors diagnosed her with Graves’ Disease in 1988. She had surgery for a perforated ulcer in 2008.

The next year she had heart surgery after doctors found a hardening in her aorta. And then in 2010 she went into the hospital for a recurrence of Graves’ Disease.

Barbara’s husband spent nearly two months in Methodist Hospital a little over a year ago.

George H. W. Bush first went into the hospital around Thanksgiving of 2012, and then ended up in intensive care for a persistent cough and fever.

Doctors let him go home last January.

On January 6, the Bushs will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary, continuing their reign as the longest-married presidential couple.

We all send our best wishes for her quick recovery.
