CYPRESS, TX – The search for a missing pregnant mother in Cypress may be over.

Melissa R. Sowders, 26, was last seen the day after Christmas. She told family members she was meeting her estranged husband, and the family has since feared the worst.

“It’s been a long week. It’s been very hard not knowing where Melissa is or what happened and not having any answers to all these questions that we’ve been having,” said Melissa’s boyfriend, Jason Sanford.

At about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Texas Equusearch recovered a body in a Cypress creek.

“Of course, we have to wait ’til the medical examiner makes a positive identification. But, you know, from everything I know about her, it certainly does appear to be her,” said Tim Miller, Founder of Texas Equusearch.

Just hours after the body was found, Harris County deputies arrested Melissa’s estranged husband, 28 year old Matthew Sowders. He’s charged with capital murder.

Melissa’s family has had their suspicions all along.

“We just wanna know what happened and why it happened, and why could somebody be so evil and do this to her. She never done nothing wrong to her husband,” said Melissa’s sister, Amber Newsom.

“Somebody took my sunshine away, and nothing can ever bring her back, but I love her very very much,” said Melissa’s mother, Sonya Newsom.

While the search for Melissa might be over, the search for justice is be getting started.
