GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – There aren’t many things more terrifying than a plane hijack.
Thus the passengers aboard an Ethiopian airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Rome early Monday are probably glad they didn’t know what was going on.
The hijacker was the plane’s co-pilot. He reportedly locked the pilot out of the cockpit while he was in the bathroom, and then steered the plane toward Geneva, where he hoped to land political asylum.
His name has not been released. He surrendered once the airliner landed.
There were 202 passengers and crew on board, reportedly including 11 Americans.
