HOUSTON, TX – There’s a satisfaction that comes with taking something old and making it new again. A pride Houston’s Fifth Ward is feeling in full.

Fifth Ward’s Historic Deluxe Theater is actually getting the third make-over of its life since it opened in 1941. Houston Mayor Annise Parker says this time, the city, TSU and the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Authority is in it for the long haul, keeping the long term effects of the renewal in mind.

So, with ta strong partnership, the city is turning the once popular movie house into a 125-seat performing arts theater with a classroom, a laboratory, and a space for retail development should they need it in the future.

With a price tag of over $5 million, this should be one heck of a fixer-upper for one big encore!
