GALVESTON, TX – If you’ve never gone to Galveston’s Mardi Gras, it’s worth the trip. It’s no New Orleans, but it’s got it’s fare share of fun, beads, and booze.
Which is exactly why we’re telling you about 61-year-old Dana Tweedie.
A retired Houston Police Officer, Tweedie was riding his motorcycle along Seawall Boulevard with his wife, Linda (who also happens to be an officer with HPD) riding as his passenger.
At that same time, 18-year-old Callie Inman was trying to pull out of a gas station parking lot heading the opposite direction on the Seawall, and that’s when the two crashed.
Tweedie and his wife were both taken to a Galveston Emergency Room.
Dana dies, and his wife is in critical condition at UTMB.
Galveston Police say Inman is in the county jail charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
The Houston Police Officer’s Union is also doing what they can to help the Tweedie family. On top of the love and support they’re providing to the fallen officer’s family, they’re also Accepting donations for the Tweedie family.
If you’re interested in donating to the Tweedie family’s medical or burial expenses, you may send cash or checks (payable to HPOU) to the Houston Police Officer’s Union, 1600 State Street, Houston, Texas 77007. Please note “Tweedie” in the memo and 100% of these funds will go to the Tweedie family.
Most importantly, if you head to the coast to let the good times roll, remember one less drink can be the difference between a night on the town, and a life behind bars.
