HOUSTON, TX -“Don’t mess up your freshman year. I would definitely take my freshman year seriously.”

Good words of advice from CW 39’s Class Act of the Week. Jacqueline Laurenzana should know since she is the valedictorian for Milby High School.

“It’s a huge class so I never thought I would be valedictorian. It’s a big accomplishment. It’s hard. It’s not easy being valedictorian.”

Laurenzana knows something about hard work since she excels both in the class room while still finding time to be president of National Honor Society and treasurer for the English Honor Society. Plus, she’s a member of Spanish Honor Society and Name That Book Club.

Karla Garcia, the Magnet Coordinator at Milby High School, says,  “It is extremely impressive. In fact , in her letter of recommendation, I mentioned that I don’t know how she does it, fulfilling all the volunteer work hours, being in all these clubs and still maintaining the highest GPA in the school. Very, very impressive.”

Laurenzana adds, “It’s hard. I struggle sometimes. Sometimes I won’t do well on test but it’s all about working with time and managing your time wisely.”

Laurenzana wants to major in communications and humanities and has already been accepted by the University of Houston, the University of Texas, and Texas A&M, but she hopes to land in Boston since she is waiting to hear back from Boston University, Boston College and Harvard

“If I get accepted to an out-of-state university, I’m definitely leaving.”

She’ll be leaving, but won’t be forgotten.
