SUGAR LAND, TX – Aiming for the stars out at Constellation Field, players brought their heat to Sugar Land, Texas, where field manager Gary Gaetti is looking for that diamond in the rough.

Gaetti explains, “This is the second annual Sugar Land Skeeters tryout camp.  This is an open tryout for guys that are either here locally or from around the country.”

And just what is it scouts are looking for?

Arizona Diamondbacks scout Scipio Spinks says “Velocity, control of their pitch, breaking ball pitches.  Can they control their breaking ball? Can they control their fastball.”

And Skeeters scout Deacon Jones describes hearing the talent before he sees it. “All of a sudden I hear that sound ‘POP’, I said ‘oooohhh, who`s that?’  Look around and you see a left hander throwing pretty good.  I said wow, all of a sudden it doesn`t look like an 82 mile an hour fastball, and when I did check with the gun, sure… He`s 89.”

Itching to be a Skeeter, these players are here to chase that dream of playing ball professionally.

The Skeeters are part of the Atlantic League, who`ve seen over 600 players achieve a Major League baseball career.  Who knows?  Maybe the next star is in this group right here.  Good luck guys!
