JACKSON, MS – Death row inmate Michelle Byrom is getting a new trial. She was convicted as mastermind of the 1999 murder-for-hire plot of her husband despite the fact that her son confessed to the crime, saying he killed his dad after being fed up with his father’s abuse.

On the stand, however, Byrom’s son changed his story and pinned the crime on a friend. With her life-clock ticking down, four days to go until her date with death and the conflicting confessions, Byrom’s side of the story was validated.

With Byrom off death row, Mississippi’s count for females awaiting death is down to one.
