NORTH PADRE ISLAND, TX – We all know oil and water don’t mix… and response teams along the gulf coast are really grasping that.

The aggressive cleanup efforts have extended down the coast, near North Padre Island and mustang island, some 200 miles southwest of where the accident happened.

Close to 500 response contractors are helping clean up the mess.

Approximately one mile of shoreline has been cleaned on South Matagorda Island so far. Crews have collected over 600 bags of oiled debris.

Oh and if you’re headed to the beaches on Padre Island any time soon, you might want to hold off. The beaches are temporarily closed to cars as crews work to clean up all of the oil washing ashore there too.

We need this mess cleaned up as soon as possible, summer is almost here!
