NEW YORK, NY – The Ground Zero mosque in lower Manhattan is set to be demolished. The Muslim institution caused quite a controversy when it opened two blocks from Ground Zero, where Muslim radicals destroyed the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

Building owners filed an application to demolish the site at 51 Park Place in Tribeca. The application also requested approval to tear down a nearby building, at 45 Park Place.

Plans for the two sites have not been announced.
