NEEDHAM, MA – Are we losing our religion? Allen Downey says we are.

Downey worships numbers. He’s a computer scientist at Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts. His belief is based on his stats – a statistical analysis that shows while religion is on the decline, internet use is rocketing.

It may sound unrelated but according to this numbers cruncher internet use may actually be causing Americans to lose their religion. If you don’t have a relationship with any faith, you’d be in that category.

Downey’s research pinpointed three reasons why followers leave the flock:

  1. Upbringing (fewer are being raised religiously)
  2. A college-level education
  3. And Internet use

Home region and income were also contributing factors.

If you disagree with Downey data, you’ll probably agree with the Blues Brothers when they say, “The Lord works in mysterious ways. Yep.”
