NEW YORK, NY – It is a royal tragedy. The brother of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, dies in New York City after a head injury from a revolving door.

62-year-old Mark Shand was outside the Gramercy Hotel’s Rose Bar when he attempted to re-enter right around 3 a.m., and unexpectedly fell backwards, whacking his head on the pavement.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A statement from the palace says “The duchess … and all her family members are utterly devastated.”

Shand was the chairman of Elephant Family, a charity that helped save the endangered animals in Asia.
