HOUSTON, TX – Members of the Greater Houston Coalition of Justice are calling on the mayor’s office and Department of Justice to take over the Houston Police Department.

“We want the City and the mayor to bring in the Department of Justice to bring in much needed oversight and perhaps restructuring of the Houston Police Department,” said Agustin Pinedo, Director of the Greater Houston LULAC District 18.

The group sites a published report which they say alleges that 121 citizens were shot by cops and an extra 54 were killed between 2008 and 2012.

The group also says that 254 active duty cops have criminal records and over 300 officers have been untruthful or insubordinate.

We reached out to HPD and the mayor’s office. Both said had they have no comment for now.
