ASHEBORO, NC – Clay Aiken shot to super stardom on the reality music competition “American Idol.” So he’s the last guy you’d expect in politics, but that’s exactly where he went. He decided to run for a Democratic seat for North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. Aiken was head-to-head against Keith Crisco. In fact, it was such a close race, Crisco was only about 300 votes behind Aiken.

But the race took a shocking turn. Crisco was found dead in his home. Reports say that the 71-year-old died from a fall inside his house.

This week, final results of the race were expected to be announced, with Crisco facing the decision of whether or not he wanted a re-count. But this is certainly an account no one saw coming.
