The sounds of football are back in the air around NRG Stadium as rookie mini-camp begins for the Texans. Plenty of eyes are on the number one pick overall in the NFL draft, outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney. Before he can start making an impact on the field, Clowney knows he will need to absorb lots of coaching from linebacker coach Mike Vrabel.
Clowney says “He wants us to learn. Other coaches are going to throw you out there but he really wants us to learn the playbook and just get good at it and see what we’ve got.’
While the focus should be on the rookies, questions still linger on whether or not all-pro receiver Andre Johnson will remain with the team as the Bill O’Brien era begins
Earlier in the week, the veteran wideout said he was not happy with his situation and doesn’t know whether Houston is for him anymore,..
Texans head coach Bill O’Brien says, “I`m not going to comment on what Andre said. I think I`ll let Andre speak for himself. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Andre and his career here in Houston. The conversations that Andre and I have had have been very positive about what we`re doing here.”
The rookies took their first baby steps as they worked a couple of hours of drilling and working out.
Texans tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz says, “Coach O’Brien knows what he is doing. the last couple of meeting he’s been intense and he knows what he wants out of us.”
Texans rookie quarterback Tom Savage adds, “You just want to get in there and you wanted to get started. The whole draft process is behind us and now we`re just here to work and find a job.’
At this point, some players feel like they can get lost just being around the stadium.
Noe tackler Louis Nix says,”I still get lost, so you got be early to everything. you know it’s not too much that’s being thrown at us but it’s just adjusting to those little things because you know there’s still a lot going on.”
O’Brien adds, “It can`t take forever, that`s for sure. You have to figure it out fairly quickly, but you can`t figure it out in one day.’
The Texans hope to not lose their favorite toy, Andre Johnson, because if they do, they might be picking first in next ear’s draft.
