HOUSTON, TX – A local attorney says many Houston nurses are working through their lunch breaks without getting paid.

So now Galvin Kennedy is suing Houston area Methodist Hospitals for what he says is violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and essentially gipping some 5,000 employees. Kennedy only has one client at the moment, but he is trying to get word out and encourage other nurses to come forward as well. He says the law protects those who speak up against policies which break it.

“Methodist violates the law by not paying them for these meal periods,” he says.

Kennedy has filed a collective action claim against seven hospitals within the Methodist network. We reached out to Methodist for comment, but did not immediately hear back.
