BROOKFIELD, IL – A veterinarian in Brookfield, Illinois is doubling as a dentist to a prickly patient. Pilgrim the porcupine visits the vet dentist every couple months to get one of her upper incisor teeth trimmed down. Pilgrim has three teeth that have stopped growing and one tooth that continues to grow.

At 11, Pilgrim is a little long in the tooth for a porcupine. Still there’s some life left on those quills, if she can get the dental hygiene under control. The vet dentist is determined to continue the treatment. Without it, he says, the porcupine will be unable to eat.
