HOUSTON, TX – If it takes a village to raise a child, it could take more than that for the kids found in a car the Houston Police Department chased down in Midtown.

An off-duty HPD cop working a security detail in the Montrose area responded when he heard about two robberies near Westheimer and Montrose.

The cop tried to pull over a driver suspected to be involved with the robbery, but the driver sped off then things got ugly. Someone leaned out of the window of the car and shot at the cop.

The chase was cut short in Midtown when several HPD cars cut off the driver at Bagby and Webster. This is when a man jumped out of the car and ran abandoning everyone in the vehicle, including two toddlers!

Cops found a handgun in the car and arrested the two suspects who were left behind. They could face felony evading and aggravated robbery.

The one man who got away possibly hopped on a nearby Metro rail, that’s where the search dogs lost scent.

No one was injured and no word on what will happen to the two innocent girls who were dragged into this mess.

Like the saying, “sense isn’t common.” If you’re gonna do a robbery, at least leave the kids at home.
