DENVER, CO – This Father’s Day won’t be easy for the Avent family.

Diagnosed with stage four brain cancer, Dallas Avent may not have much time left.

On her recent 12th birthday, daughter Madison shared her only wish with a Denver radio station.

“I just want my dad to get well,” she said.

Now, thanks to volunteers touched by their story, Dallas has something special to pass on to his daughter.”

“My grandfather bought it new from day one,” he said of his beloved 1969 Ford pickup. “He had given it to my dad, then my dad passed it on to me.”

Generous strangers worked for 2.5 weeks to restore the truck to its former glory.

“It’s just amazing,” Dallas said. I don’t know what words there are.”

The truck full of memories will be ready when Madison is old enough to drive, as the young girl offers some wise advice.

“You never know when something might happen,” she said. “Spend every day with them.”

Words to take to heart this Father’s Day weekend.
