“Fasten your seat-belt, it’s going to be a sexy ride!”

Air New Zealand sexed up their latest in-flight video by putting scantily clad Sports Illustrated models front and center to “demonstrate” the airline’s safety messages.

The video, entitled Safety in Paradise, even features Christie Brinkley.

But not everyone was a fan of the video. In fact critics wanted the video permanently grounded. An online petition was started on change.org to have the “sexist in-flight safety video” removed.

The petition, started by Natasha Young of Melbourne, stated:

‘A safety video is to alert passengers on what to do in an emergency; it should not be an excuse to objectify the sexualized female body.’

Well it worked. After over 11,000 signatures, Air New Zealand has pulled the four-minute video.

However, an Air New Zealand spokeswoman told BuzzFeed that the video was not pulled due to the online backlash and it always intended to be removed after it had completed its run.

The video was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition.

Air New Zealand passengers will now be shown the previous safety video featuring British adventurer, Bear Grylls.

So what do you think? Was the video to sexy? I personally loved it, and thought it was super clever. Let’s be real, how many of you really watch the in-flight safety videos? I know I don’t. This one caught my attention, and I don’t think it was inappropriate for passengers of any age. Stop reading so much into it. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight. And for those of you complaining, clearly you need a vacation.

And that’s today’s helping of The Online Dish with Maggie.
