Nebraska men accused of killing, cooking protected birds

NEBRASKA – Three men in Douglas County, Nebraska, didn’t know the “no swallowing swallows” rule before they allegedly captured, cooked, and yes, probably swallowed some of more than 200 of the state’s protected birds.

Douglas County Prosecutor, David Smalheiser, says police reports “indicate that there were a variety from young to older birds.”

No word on if any nests were disturbed in the process of the capture and slaying of the mom and pop birds.

Apparently a State Trooper caught the three bird-brains with dozens of Swallows at Lake Cunningham in June, and officials found even more birds (some alive, some cooked in the fridge) at an apartment, where two of the men live.
