Lightning strike in New Mexico injures football players

LAS CRUCES, NM (CNN) - Six people were hurt in a lightning strike during a middle school football practice Tuesday afternoon in New Mexico.

Five players and one coach were injured.

One of the middle-school aged boys was critically hurt.

He was stabilized at a hospital and was scheduled to be airlifted to a pediatric burn unit for more advanced treatment.

A teammate said one kid was lying on the field unconscious and another was bleeding from an ear.

In addition to the critical injury, two boys and the coach were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two others were not seriously hurt.
