PITTSBURGH - Phil Laboon, 32, planned to get married in Pittsburgh on Saturday, but after the ceremony was called off, he decided to hold an event for Surgicorps International, an organization that provides free surgery in developing countries, in place of his pre-paid reception.

"Now we've had over 800 requests from people online asking to buy tickets, people wanting to fly in from other states that wanted to come and support this, people donating tens of thousands of dollars," says Laboon.

The fundraiser might also end up benefitting his love life. Since news of his plans broke, he's gotten more than 500 Facebook friend requests from women.

For now though, the suddenly single 32-year-old would rather keep his focus on his charitable cause.
