HOUSTON, Tx. -- Criminals are always on the hunt for some fast cash and in Houston, it seems like smash and grabs have become the new thing.

This time, two attempted ATM heists in one night.

The first one happened around two in the morning at a Phillips 66 gas station on West Montgomery and West Little York.

Seven masked suspects backed a pickup truck into the front of the store and got away with an ATM. They tried to grab a second one, but couldn't lift it.

Smash and grab

Get this, the store is open 24 hours and there was one customer inside at the time.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

The second one went down at a Shell gas station at East Freeway at McCarty. Suspects tried to get their hands on an ATM, but weren't able to and fled the scene.

HPD thinks it could be the same group of crooks.

Either way, it looks like these thieves were crashing for cash.
