CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS -- No matter how many times you’ve seen them, nothing tugs at your heart more than watching soldiers come home to their families. It was that kind of heartwarming drama that unfolded at Labay Middle School in Cy-Fair.

Seventh-grader Francis Garza and her class at Labay Middle School in Cy-Fair are learning about Veterans Day, but Francis didn’t know she’s about to see her mom again for the first time in nearly a year.

USMC Major Paulina Rojas had been deployed overseas for 11 months, seven in Afghanistan and four in Kuwait. With the help of Cy-Fair ISD, the Major was able to surprise her daughter.

“I’m ecstatic still. I just came back from deployment. I got some time on leave and I came straight here,” explains Major Rojas.

“I was very surprised” says Francis.

Now the Major and her “minor” will get to spend some quality time together.

“Definitely, do a lot of catching up,” says the smiling mother.

Welcome home Major!
