LOS ANGELES, California -- Southwest flight 623 from San Francisco to Phoenix made an emergency landing in Los Angeles on Tuesday with an extra person on board. A baby was born mid-flight!
The craziest thing is, while you may picture loud screaming and a really stressful labor, the whole thing happened with barely a peep!
"No noises. Nothing,” says passenger Julie Dafoe.
A doctor and nurse who happened to be on board helped in the delivery. They reportedly used another passenger’s cosmetic scissors to cut the umbilical cord.
The plane was met by a Los Angeles Fire Department emergency response team upon landing, according to LAX spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado.
Mother and child were transported to a local hospital and are "doing fine," according to Alvarado.
