THE NETHERLANDS - There are many ways to pop the big question, but one man's creativity in the Netherlands was over the top, and came to a crashing end.

The would-be groom had a construction crane lift him to the upstairs bedroom window of his girlfriend's apartment.

The plan was for him to sing to her and propose from mid-air, but gravity had a different plan.

The truck operating the crane toppled over, causing the crane's arm to slice through the apartment like a piece of wedding cake. Six apartments were destroyed, 32 people had to evacuate, and the entire building was deemed unsafe.

In spite of the mishap, the man's engagement didn't fall through. His girlfriend said yes and he whisked his new fiance off to celebrate in Paris.

No injuries in the engagement entanglement, but the crane operator's job probably hangs in the balance.
