BLOOMINGTON, Mn. -Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab released a video threat to one of America’s largest shopping malls, the Mall of America in Minnesota. Though the FBI is not convinced the threats are real, maybe just propaganda, the mall is tightening security.
The threats are believed to be a response to U.S. airstrikes that killed the head of the Al-Shabaab intelligence program. And the use of social media to deliver these messages is a growing trend.
Jeh Johnson, Homeland Security Secretary, expresses, “My concern is that these groups are actually competing for attention and for fundraising and recruitment.”
Homeland Security specifically warned shoppers at the Mall of America in Minnesota, and the Mall of Edmonton in Canada was also warned to take precautions.
