HOUSTON, TX – A Houston man shot and killed his friend overnight, telling HPD he pulled the trigger in self-defense. Officers first responded to the apartment along Bering Drive around 7:30 p.m. on March 25 to take a report of a stolen car. The man suspected a friend who was staying with him took it. He told police he didn’t want to file charges, but he did want his car back. A couple hours later, the friend who allegedly took the car returned to the apartment. That’s when investigators said the argument turned physical.

“The shooter, fearing for his life after he was being physically assaulted by the shooting victim, retrieved a weapon from a gun safe and defended himself by discharging it once,” said Det. Robert Klementich.

Officers said the shooter cooperated with the investigation and they’re unsure if charges will be filed in this case.
