Freeport Sunday school teacher accused of sex crimes

FREEPORT, TX - A Freeport Sunday school teacher is being held on $100,000 bond after being arrested on charges of sexual assault of a child.

Investigators say they found out about the crime when one of Juan Mendoza's victims came forward. Now 17, officers say the girl started having a sexual relationship with Mendoza, whom she met at Iglesias Bautista Emanuel, when she was 15. Cell phone records reveal Mendoza first started texting her when she was 13 and the first time they had sex was in a storage room at the church.

In the course of their investigation, officers turned up a second victim, who is now 20 years old. Officers say Mendoza started having sex with her when she was only 16.
