HOUSTON, TX - Bar games can get old, but not when you do them the way the Brooklyn Athletic Club does.
The East Coast athletic club inspired bar and restaurant is anything but stuffy. On one side of the restaurant, you have an enormous patio complete with picnic tables, giant jenga, bocce, ping-pong and a corn hole set up. However, on the other side of the building, you'd never know you were anywhere near the party games. A warm welcoming patio features intimate tables on the deck next to a perfectly placed putting green, and the menu is far from 'bar food'.
Chef Will Gilchriest has fun with his menu, inspiring taste buds across a plethora of palettes. You can find burgers as big as your head boasting fresh local ingredients and homemade green tomato and jalapeno jam, or lean on the lighter side with Chef Will's unique twist on a classic wedge salad. Gilchriest's brunch is a whole other story. General Manager Drew Haught says the brunch menu is usually an impromptu collection based on Gilchriest's grocery list and most recent creative spark. For us, he whipped up a banana and bacon french toast with bourbon vanilla bean whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Forgive our drooling. As Gilchriest puts it, "that with a bloody mary will change your Saturday or Sunday for sure."
The BAC doesn't leave their creativity to the eats, the cocktail menu is versatile and exciting, and accompanied by some staple and local craft beers and wines. So whether you're in for some backyard fun or a fine dining experience, or both, don't be afraid to get your game on at the Brooklyn Athletic Club.
