HOUSTON, TX - A Houston Community College police officer is in critical condition after being stabbed while working a second job.

Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, the officer, whose name hasn't been released, was working security at the Walmart at 9555 S. Post Oak Rd. Investigators say she was watching the registers when the suspect walked up, pulled out a hunting knife and stabbed the officer several times. He even reached for her gun, but employees and customers jumped into action, likely saving the officer's life.

"They had a choice. They could have run, but they chose to intervene," said HPD spokesman Kese Smith. "There's an HCC officer fighting for her life right now at Ben Taub because of their timely intervention."

That group of employees and customers also held the suspect until officers go to the scene. He'll likely face charges of attempted murder of a police officer.
