MOUNT OLIVE, NC – Mount Olive's annual pickle festival has it all: Pony rides and nifty slides for the kids, and performers from country music and America’s Got Talent.

Oh, and Molly Schuyler, the meat-eating queen of the universe.

She beat off the boys earlier this month to take the top prize at Amarillo’s The Big Texan Steak Ranch by putting away three, 72-ounce steak dinners, with shrimp, salad, and bread, in a record-setting 20 minutes.

The following weekend found Schuyler at the Mount Olive Pickle Festival staring down seven or eight inches, or so, of meat.

Specifically, 55 ounces of hamburger at the annual “55 Challenge”, sponsored by Highway 55 Burgers.

That’s 55 ounces, about 3.4 pounds of beef, not counting buns, fixin’s, and fries.

And she swallowed that tall pile of meat in a record time of two minutes and 12 seconds.

Her technique involves using both hands and no chewing, just shoving it in her mouth and swallowing as much, and as quickly, as possible.

It works for her, and this time it earned her $2,500.

That’s about $1,111 a minute, for those keeping score at home.

Seventy-five hundred bucks for about 20 minutes of weekend work. Where else but America can you can get paid to eat?
