ANGLETON, TX - An overnight search for a missing child in Brazoria County came to a heartbreaking end.
The sheriff tells NewsFix the family is visiting Angleton from Washington, DC. They arrived Wednesday evening and were unloading their car when the 3-year-old boy snuck away without anyone noticing. They reported him missing around 7:45 p.m.
Crews from the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, Angleton Police and Angleton Fire spent the night searching the property around the home. At some point overnight, a deputy noticed a surveillance camera on the house and reviewed the tape, which showed the boy wandering to the back of the home in the direction of the pond. Searchers recovered the boy's body around 1 a.m.
An autopsy will be performed, but the sheriff says he thinks this is simply a "tragic accident."
