HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Police Department put on an out of the ordinary exhibition Saturday, a controlled drinking and driving exercise.

The main purpose of the event was to educate Houstonians on the dangers of driving while intoxicated, as well as showing how much even low levels of alcohol can affect a driver's decisions.

"We see so many drunk drivers on the streets every night, we have to do something to try and change that," Don Egdorf of the Houston Police Department said. "For us, a successful year is going to be a year with no alcohol-related fatal crashes."

According to the HPD, Houston and Harris County led the nation in drug and alcohol-related fatal crashes last year.
