How to check if your airbag is recalled

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to http://www.safercar.gov/rs/takata/index.html
  2. Click on “VIN search tool”
  3. Enter your vehicle VIN in the box, enter security code and click submit

NOTE At the time of publishing this, the NHTSA’s website was experiencing heavy traffic,   because of this, we have added the below steps providing a different search option

  1. Go to http://www.safercar.gov/rs/takata/index.html
  2. Click on “specific vehicle-maker’s site” http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners/vin-lookup-sites
  3. Select your manufacturer (You will be taken to the manufacter’s recall site)
  4. Depending on your manufacturer, you may be presented with a place to enter your vehicle’s VIN or a drop down menu where you can select you specific vehicle (In the video we chose Honda).
  5. You will be presented will all current recalls associated to your vehicle
